Services for Adults Membership does have have privileges!

The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library has 7 library branches where books and materials may be borrowed for free by library card holders. You may borrow books from all of the Nova Scotia regional libraries whey you register for a PARL card, through Interlibrary loans or the Borrow Anywhere Return Anywhere program of Libraries Nova Scotia.

Library cards

Getting a library card is very simple, and the best part is that it is FREE. Library cards are available at all library branches, or you can register for one online.

Online Services

With your FREE PARL library card, you can access our online resources 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Search our online catalogue to find the book or movie of your choice, check out our magazine database, find health information, business information, or gardening information. We have a growing collection of digitzed local history information available at NovaStory.ca. As well in our New Glasgow branch, in association with the Pictou County Roots Society, we hold several archives while free access to Ancestry.ca is available in all our library branches. During regular library hours, a librarian-archivist may be available to assist you with your historical research needs, or provide helpful advice.

Wireless Hotspots, public access computers & other gadgets

At all our library branches we have wireless access. In addition all our branches have computer workstations that may be reserved for patron use.
We also have printers, 3D printers, photocopiers, FAX machines, scanners and other items available for use.

Training

Have a gadget you are having trouble learning how to use properly? Contact your nearest @NS site/library and they will arrange a one on one training session to help you.

Library Programs & Events

Interesting programs on just about everything under the sun! The Library hosts many evening and sometimes afternoon workshops and presentations on a wide range of topics of interest to our community. If you have an idea, a request or a program to offer, please contact the Programming Department at Regional Library Headquarters (902 755-6031 or toll-free 1-866-779-7761).

Community Cafes

Once per month the library hosts a Community Cafe at several branches with activities and seminar topics of interest - with light refreshments served as well. These are 'drop-in as you wish' sessions. The Community Cafes occur from September - June at most participating branches. Sometimes the scheduled date may change by a week, depending upon the various holidays.

Knitting Circles and Crafting Groups
Several of our branches have knitting and crafting groups that meet for fun, instruction and conversation. Everyone is welcome, from absolute beginners to master knitters.

Borrow By Mail

A free mail-order library service for our rural residents of Pictou and Antigonish Counties. Library members may select materials such as books, magazines and videos from the library's online catalogue and they can be delivered right to your mailbox.

Senior's Delivery Service

This service is available to seniors living at assisted care facilities, senior community complexes, or who are homebound. Library materials are delivered monthly upon request. Several of the local residential care homes (Seniors Homes) do receive monthly book deposits from the library. For individual deliveries, the library can arrange to have a bag of selected books ready for a family member or a friend to pick-up, or sometimes a volunteer may be able to make the home delivery. for more information about this service, please call toll free 1-866-779-7761.
